Shaping learning - This guides us in our actions
"Nice that you're here.
“
We accept each other and treat each other with respect. We try to build relationships that enable good learning and work at our school.
Children can learn well when they are allowed to be who they are.
Teachers can work well when they are allowed to be who they are.
Our key objectives arise from these principles:
We know that every child can learn something new. Every child wants to learn something new.
We support the children with learning arrangements that help them develop their independence, social skills and personal responsibility.
We maintain and intensify the regular exchange of information with everyone involved in school life.
We implement the house rules so that everyone involved in school life can work and learn well.
Cooperation with school child care
Together with the school child care teachers, we take care of your children. This togetherness is important for the children who spend many hours at school. We therefore ask you to agree to the cooperation agreement between the school and school child care. You will receive this agreement when you register for school child care.
Child-oriented teaching
In compulsory lessons, the children learn together the content set out in the Baden-Württemberg education plan. Through learning courses, action-oriented work and workshop lessons, there are a variety of opportunities to work at your own pace, deepen your own interests and gain experience together with others. At the same time, we value collaborative learning in the classroom.
Reading - a basic skill
In addition to normal reading lessons, we promote the love of reading and reading skills through various offerings.
Reading is simply fun in our beautifully designed reading room. Sitting comfortably, reading aloud, reading yourself, introducing books: it's simply much nicer than in the classroom.
Reading sponsors support us in the process of learning to read. You read with the children so that they have additional practice periods.
The Internet platform “Antolin” makes it possible to deepen reading for meaning. Anyone who reads a lot and can answer a lot of questions will receive a lot of points and become a good reader!
All of our activities are supported with great reliability by the Ettlingen City Library. We also attend author readings there, the children get their library license and we borrow interesting and great books.
Musical - Aesthetic Education
Our old school building should be beautifully designed. Rooms that show what the children have painted, crafted and created are welcome.
We promote creativity in the artistic field in art and craft lessons and also visit museums.
By singing and making music together at festivals, church services and during Advent, we promote a sense of rhythm, a love of music and doing things together. The third and fourth graders choose a project for one hour of music lessons in which they participate for a year. You can choose from: singing along in the choir, making music in the rhythm and instrument group, building instruments and making music with them, learning to play the ukulele.
The second music lesson takes place in class and conveys the more theoretical content of the “musical education plan”.
Project days
Cross-year project days enable children to delve deeper into a topic over several days and to work together with children with the same focus of interest.
Health education
We attach particular importance to ensuring that the children have regular breaks during lessons to recharge their batteries. Of course, this includes a big break in the fresh air: there are two levels in the schoolyard available to the children. The fourth graders manage the recess games that are available to support the fun of play and movement.
Through the weekly school fruit sponsored by the Bardusch company, we distribute the necessary vitamin boost for everyday school life.
Healthy self-confidence also includes security and knowing how to act correctly in unpleasant situations: How do I behave if someone annoys me, harasses me, or wants to get me into a fight?
These topics are always present in everyday school life and are dealt with in the class council. In order to encourage children to move on to secondary schools, we offer a “Strengthen course” in class 3. It is led by Mr. Heitz, a former detective inspector and trainer.
The class representatives meet with the school administration several times a year to discuss important topics with the classes.
Sports
In physical education lessons, we specifically guide the children to experience movement - good muscle tone, endurance and the joy of movement support learning.
A sports festival takes place every year as a way to measure your performance, and in swimming lessons the children can learn the basics of different swimming styles, diving and the basic knowledge of self-rescue and rescue.
Religious education
We teach the subject of religion in a denominational, cooperative manner. This means that the Catholic and Protestant children attend religious education classes together. They are taught annually alternately by Catholic and Protestant teachers.
To our delight, non-Christian religious children or children who do not belong to any denomination also occasionally take part in this denominational-cooperative religious education. They greatly enrich the lessons with their thoughts and knowledge of their religion.
Children who do not attend religious classes sit in another class and are given tasks to complete independently.
At Easter and at the end of the school year we also prepare a church service with the children. They act out the biblical stories in a small scene, think about what the stories mean for their lives and formulate requests for themselves and others and give thanks for the beautiful things.
